On 12th July 2026, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) informed that it had successfully conducted three major qualification tests of critical systems for the Gaganyaan crew module.
Key Points
- Crew Module Uprighting System: ISRO successfully tested the cold-gas-based uprighting system to ensure the crew module attains an upright position after sea splashdown.
- Connect-Disconnect System: The Crew Module–Service Module umbilical separation mechanism was successfully tested for safe module separation during re-entry.
- Apex Cover Test: ISRO validated the structural integrity of the crew module during the apex cover separation before parachute deployment.
- Crew Safety: The tests verified critical systems required for safe re-entry, parachute deployment and post-splashdown crew survival.
- Mission Significance: The successful qualification tests enhance confidence in the reliability of Gaganyaan's crew recovery and re-entry systems.
