India Launches Campaign for UNSC Non-Permanent Seat

On 13th July 2026, India officially launched its campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028–29 term.
Key Points
- SHANTI Vision: India unveiled SHANTI (Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity) as its guiding vision for global peace and security.
- Peacekeeping Role: India has contributed nearly 3 lakh personnel to around 50 UN peacekeeping missions since the UN's establishment.
- Current Contribution: More than 4,300 Indian personnel are currently serving in 10 UN peacekeeping missions worldwide.
- Global South: India reiterated its commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and representing the interests of the Global South.
- Tenure: If elected, India will serve as a non-permanent UNSC member for the 2028–29 term.
- Previous Membership: India has served eight terms as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, most recently during 2021–22.
