‘Catch the Rain’ Campaign under AMRUT 2.0

In July 2026, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) intensified the nationwide ‘Catch the Rain – Where it Falls, When it Falls’ campaign under AMRUT 2.0 to strengthen urban water security.
Key Points
- Nationwide Campaign: Nearly 900 Urban Local Bodies across 27 States and Union Territories are implementing rainwater harvesting and water conservation initiatives.
- Groundwater Recharge: Around 1.99 lakh groundwater recharge structures have been taken up, with over 73,000 additional structures under implementation.
- Shallow Aquifer Management: Scientific aquifer mapping and recharge interventions are being implemented in states including West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
- Water Body Rejuvenation: AMRUT 2.0 is restoring nearly 1.21 lakh acres of urban water bodies through desilting, shoreline protection and biodiversity enhancement.
- Urban Green Spaces: More than 12,750 acres of parks and green spaces are being developed to improve groundwater recharge and reduce urban heat stress.
