Dr. Srinivasa Kumar Tummala

On 16th July 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed renowned oceanographer Dr. Srinivasa Kumar Tummala as the Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) for a two-year tenure.

Dr. Tummala is currently the Head of the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) Secretariat under UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in Perth, Australia.
His appointment comes as India strengthens the Deep Ocean Mission, enhances climate modelling, improves disaster early warning systems, and promotes the Blue Economy.
He has over 30 years of experience in remote sensing, satellite oceanography, coastal hazard mitigation, and disaster management.
