India's 8th Trade Policy Review at WTO

On 21st July 2026, India reaffirmed its commitment to a rule-based, transparent, and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system during its eighth Trade Policy Review at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

  • India highlighted its efforts to strengthen global trade through an expanding network of trade agreements, a liberalised Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regime, and continued support for South-South cooperation.
  • The Trade Policy Review (TPR) is a WTO mechanism under which member countries periodically examine the trade policies and practices of individual members to promote transparency and better understanding of global trade regimes.
  • India reiterated its support for the WTO as the primary platform for addressing global trade issues and emphasised its role as a trusted and reliable partner in promoting inclusive global economic growth.
