Andhra Pradesh Comes Second Under MISHTI Scheme

On 26th July 2026, Andhra Pradesh secured second place among Indian states under the Centre's MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes) scheme for its achievements in mangrove restoration and coastal ecosystem conservation.

  • Andhra Pradesh developed 2,047.70 hectares of mangrove plantations during 2025–26, with an investment of ₹18.04 crore.
  • The restoration work is being carried out under the state's Great Green Wall of Andhra Pradesh initiative.
  • The Forest Department adopted the Fish Bone Technique, an innovative method that improves tidal water circulation, enhances mangrove survival, and strengthens ecological resilience.
  • For 2026–27, the state has set a target of restoring 1,618 hectares of mangrove ecosystems.
  • Over the past two years, nearly 7,000 acres of mangroves have been restored under the Great Green Wall of Andhra Pradesh initiative.
