D. Y. Patil

On 4th August 2026, renowned educationist, philanthropist, Padma Shri awardee, and former Governor Dr. Dnyandeo Yashwantrao (D. Y.) Patil passed away in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, at the age of 90 after a prolonged illness.

Dr. D. Y. Patil was a Padma Shri awardee (1991) and served as the Governor of Tripura, Bihar and West Bengal.
He was the founder of the D. Y. Patil Group, which established numerous schools, colleges, universities and hospitals across India, particularly in Maharashtra.
He was widely recognised for his contributions to education, healthcare, philanthropy and social service.
