Hakainde Hichilema

On 18th August 2026, Hakainde Hichilema was re-elected Zambia’s President.

Hichilema secured over 2.9 million valid votes, crossing the constitutional 50% threshold for outright victory.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) officially declared Hichilema the winner.
Hichilema belongs to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
He first became Zambia’s President in August 2021 after defeating long-time incumbent Edgar Lungu.
India and Zambia established diplomatic relations in 1964, soon after Zambia gained independence.
