On 18th August 2026, Hakainde Hichilema was re-elected Zambia’s President.

  • Hichilema secured over 2.9 million valid votes, crossing the constitutional 50% threshold for outright victory.
  • The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) officially declared Hichilema the winner.
  • Hichilema belongs to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
  • He first became Zambia’s President in August 2021 after defeating long-time incumbent Edgar Lungu.
  • India and Zambia established diplomatic relations in 1964, soon after Zambia gained independence.
