Sujalam Bharat: Policy on Data Sharing and Interoperability

On 20th August 2026, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, issued the Policy on Data Sharing, Interoperability and Stakeholder Access under Sujalam Bharat Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

Data Sharing: The policy establishes a framework for sharing rural drinking water data among States, UTs and local governance institutions.
Interoperability: It promotes common identifiers, standardised metadata and interoperable digital registries.
Stakeholder Access: Approved stakeholders can access data through secure, purpose-based mechanisms.
Panchayat-Centric Governance: The framework strengthens Panchayat participation, grievance redressal and service accountability.
Technology Applications: Data can support AI analytics, predictive maintenance, geospatial planning and Digital Twins.
Data Protection: The policy includes safeguards for privacy, personal data, cybersecurity and sensitive infrastructure information.
Sujalam Bharat DPI: It aims to create a long-term digital foundation for rural water utility governance.
