CSIR-NAL Indigenous Gas Turbine Engines

  • 26 Aug 2026

On 25th August 2026, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) unveiled three indigenous micro and small gas turbine engines in New Delhi.

  • The NJ-05 engine provides 5 kg thrust, while NJ-50 provides 50 kg thrust.
  • The NJ-100 engine provides 100 kg thrust for compact aerospace propulsion applications.
  • These engines target tactical UAVs, drone interceptors, and compact missile systems.
  • Their indigenous development supports Atmanirbhar Bharat in critical aerospace and defence technologies.
  • CSIR-NAL aims to integrate these engines into India’s growing indigenous drone ecosystem.
  • Indian aerospace industries and startups can manufacture these engines at scale for defence needs.
