Semicon 2.0 Scheme

On 31st August 2026, the Government notified Semicon 2.0 with an outlay of ₹1.27 lakh crore to strengthen India’s semiconductor value chain.

Key Points

  • Objective: Build an end-to-end semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen India’s role in the global semiconductor value chain.
  • Value Chain: Support will cover chip design, fabrication, packaging, equipment, materials, research and development, and talent development.
  • Six Pillars: The scheme will operate through six pillars covering ten categories across the semiconductor ecosystem.
  • Nodal Agency: India Semiconductor Mission will handle applications, project appraisal, recommendations and implementation oversight.
  • Project Duration: Supported projects will generally run for up to six years, while applications will initially remain open for three years.
  • Talent Development: India has developed 85,000 semiconductor engineers and aims to train one lakh additional engineers.
  • Innovation: Students from Tier-II and Tier-III cities have already designed more than 250 semiconductor chips.
