32nd World Ozone Day Celebrations Organized in Mumbai

On September 16, 2026, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change organized the 32nd World Ozone Day celebrations in Mumbai under the theme "Global Action for a Cooler Planet."

Key Points

Digital Initiatives: On this occasion, India's Net Zero Portal and the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) Dashboard were launched.
Net Zero Portal: Provides a national digital platform for entities to register their voluntary net-zero commitments and showcase their progress.
NAPCC Dashboard: Will assist in the consolidated monitoring of the progress of national climate change missions.
Party to Montreal Protocol: India has been a party to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and all its amendments since 1992.
Phase-out of Ozone-Depleting Substances: Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), Carbon Tetrachloride (CTC), and Halons have already been phased out for controlled uses.
Progress in HCFC Phase-out: India is currently phasing out Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in accordance with the accelerated phase-out schedule of the Montreal Protocol.
HCFC Targets: India achieved its designated HCFC phase-out targets for 2015, 2020, and 2025.
Kigali Amendment: India ratified the Kigali Amendment in September 2021, which came into effect for India on December 26, 2021.
HFC Targets: A schedule has been set for India to reduce HFC production and consumption from baseline levels by 10% in 2032, 20% in 2037, 30% in 2042, and 85% in 2047.
