MoTA-IGNCA MoU for Tribal Heritage Preservation

On September 28, 2026, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the preservation, documentation, digitization, research, and promotion of India's tribal cultural heritage.

Institutional Collaboration: The agreement connects the Ministry of Tribal Affairs' network of Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) with IGNCA's research, archival, and cultural expertise.
Heritage Preservation: Systematic documentation and preservation of tribal art, music, languages, oral traditions, folklore, crafts, customs, and traditional knowledge will be undertaken.
Endangered Traditions: Special focus under the collaboration will be given to identifying, preserving, and promoting endangered tribal languages, oral traditions, indigenous art forms, and folklore.
Digital Preservation: Digital archives and museum galleries will be developed for tribal heritage, showcasing the contribution of tribal communities to the freedom struggle.
Wider Outreach: Tribal artists, craftspeople, and traditional knowledge holders will gain a wider platform through exhibitions, museums, publications, digital platforms, and cultural festivals.
