MSME-MoSPI MoU for Statistical Business Register

On September 29, 2026, the Ministry of MSME and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) signed an agreement to develop and strengthen the National Statistical Business Register (NSBR).

Key Facts

Data Sharing: Unit-level data available under the Ministry of MSME's Udyam Registration will be shared with MoSPI.
Two-Way API: Data exchange between the two ministries via a two-way Application Programming Interface (API) will be used to build the NSBR.
What is SBR?: A Statistical Business Register is a centralized and regularly updated database of registered businesses, enterprises, and establishments engaged in economic activities.
Use in Economic Surveys: SBR will assist in identifying target units, sample selection, and generating business demographics data for economic surveys.
Data Quality: Information sourced from Udyam Registration will improve the coverage, uniformity, and reliability of business statistics, helping integrate diverse data sources.
