Jawahar Dweep becomes India’s First Plastic-Free Oil Terminal

On October 2, 2026, the Mumbai Port Authority declared the Jawahar Dweep Marine Oil Terminal as India’s first plastic-free oil terminal.

- Plastic-Free Terminal: Jawahar Dweep was declared plastic-free to reduce single-use plastics and advance sustainable port operations.
- Cleanliness Drive: The announcement was made during the Swachhata Abhiyan 2026 organized at the Grey Gate of Indira Dock, Mumbai.
- Union Minister: Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, led the campaign and honored sanitation workers.
- Jawahar Dweep Terminal: The terminal handles crude oil and petroleum products and currently houses five jetties, JD1 through JD5.
- OSR Facilities: During the event, the Minister also dedicated the port’s Oil Spill Response (OSR) facilities to the nation.
- Future Initiatives: Mumbai Port Authority stated it will continue efforts to reduce plastic across docks, residential colonies, and coastal areas.
