28 Locations in Ladakh Marked on Survey of India Map

On October 2, 2026, the Government of India, in consultation with the Union Territory of Ladakh, marked 28 locations/geographical features on the official Survey of India map using standardized names.
Key Facts
- Objective: To ensure accurate identification of these locations and build better awareness among the general public.
- Geographical Diversity: The 28 identified features include mountains, peaks, passes, glaciers, valleys, lakes, rivers, and water bodies.
- Prominent Peaks: Include Atisha Giri, Kanishka Peak, Martand Giri, Zorawar Peak, Rinchen Zangpo, Sakyashree Giri, and Maheshwar Ri.
- Other Major Features: Parpik and Skamri glaciers, Chapchingal and Shachmirk passes, and the Shkorga Valley have also been marked.
- Water Bodies: Guru Rinpoche Tso is recorded as a lake, Yangpa Tso as a river, and Hot Spring as a water body feature.
- Official Map: The map of Ladakh incorporating these additional locations and features has been made available on official Survey of India maps.
