  • 22 Oct 2026

On 22 October 2026, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced that 1.3 metric tonnes of Sinduri pomegranates were exported from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh to Dubai in collaboration with APEDA.

  • Export Consignment: It was informed that 1.3 metric tonnes (1,300 kg) of Sinduri pomegranates from Kullu district were sent to the market in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
  • Role of APEDA: Operating under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, APEDA works toward the export promotion of agricultural and processed food products and connects producers to international markets.
  • Cultivation of Sinduri Pomegranate: According to ICAR reports, improved varieties of pomegranates, including Sinduri, have been promoted in low-altitude areas of Kullu as an alternative fruit crop to apples.
  • Climate Adaptation: Due to warm winters and erratic snowfall affecting apple cultivation in Kullu, pomegranate cultivation—which is suitable for relatively warmer and drier conditions—has expanded.
  • Export Market: The United Arab Emirates has been a major import market for Indian pomegranates. APEDA's market study report noted strong demand for Indian pomegranates there.
