ISRO to Launch NVS-03 Navigation Satellite
- 30 Oct 2026
On October 30, 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) planned the launch of the NVS-03 satellite from Sriharikota using the GSLV-F18 rocket at 11:51 PM. This mission will bolster India’s indigenous NavIC system.
Key Facts
- Launch Site: The satellite launch is scheduled from the Second Launch Pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre located in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
- 20th Flight of GSLV: GSLV-F18 marks the 20th flight of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle. It will place NVS-03 into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
- Second-Generation Satellite: NVS-03 is the third of five proposed second-generation satellites for NavIC. It aims to ensure continuity of existing navigation services.
- Atomic Clocks: NVS-03 is fitted with both indigenous and imported atomic clocks, which will aid in providing precise timing signals from the satellite.
- New Frequency: In addition to the existing L5 and S-band signals, the satellite will feature an L1-band signal to enhance compatibility with consumer navigation devices.
- NavIC Coverage: The system is designed to provide positioning, navigation, and timing services across India and extending up to approximately 1,500 kilometers beyond its geographical boundaries.
- Mission Significance: The successful launch and operational deployment of NVS-03 will increase satellite availability for NavIC, strengthening the reliability of independent navigation services.
