26th September: World Rivers Day 2021

  • 27 Sep 2021

  • The World Rivers Day is celebrated every year on the “Fourth Sunday of September”.
  • The theme for World Rivers Day 2021 is “Waterways in our communities”.
  • The day was recognised by the United Nations in 2005 upon the proposal initiated by internationally renowned river advocate, Mark Angelo.
  • Recently, during his 81st edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ PM Modi urged people to observe World Rivers Day and keep in mind the importance that the water body has in our lives.
  • Also, the proceeds from the ongoing special e-auction of the gifts he received will be dedicated to the government’s flagship project 'Namami Gange'.
