Asia’s First Pre-Clinical Network Facility at Faridabad

On July 16th, 2024, the Minister of State (IC) for Science, Technology, and Earth Sciences inaugurated Asia's first 'Pre-clinical Network Facility' for health research under CEPI at the Regional Centre of Biotechnology, THSTI, Faridabad (Haryana).
Key Points
- The lab will be the 9th such network laboratory across the globe and the first such laboratory in the whole of Asia.
 - The other labs are located in the US, Europe and Australia.
 
Ge-HuMic
- The Minister also inaugurated the 'Genetically Defined Human Associated Microbial Culture Collection (Ge-HuMic) Facility' to act as a repository for providing microbial cultures to research institutes, universities, and industries for research and development.
 - The facility will serve as a Nodal Resource Centre that will foster national and international collaborations between academic institutions, hospitals and industry.
 - It will also serve as a repository of genetically characterised specific pathogen-free animals (including cryopreserved embryos and sperm) for the use of researchers within the country.
 
CEPI
- It was launched in Davos in 2017.
 - Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is a global partnership working to accelerate the development of vaccines and other biologic countermeasures against epidemic and pandemic threats.
 
THSTI
- The Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), is an institute under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), Department of Biotechnology,
 - THSTI conducts interdisciplinary research in areas such as infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases, and collaborates with national and international institutions to translate scientific discoveries into practical health solutions.
