Ajay Kumar Appointed UPSC Chairman

On 14th May 2025, Dr. Ajay Kumar, former Defence Secretary and retired IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Dr. Ajay Kumar is a retired IAS officer from the 1985 batch of the Kerala cadre with over three decades of administrative experience.
He previously held the position of Defence Secretary of India from August 2019 until his retirement in October 2022.
His appointment as UPSC Chairman was formally notified by the Department of Personnel and Training.
Dr. Kumar’s tenure will commence from the date he officially assumes charge of the position.
As UPSC Chairman, he will oversee the recruitment process for top civil services, including IAS, IPS, IFS, and other Group A services.
