Justice B R Gavai Becomes First Buddhist CJI
- 14 May 2025
On 14th May 2025, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai was sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- Justice Gavai created history as the first Buddhist and second dalit to hold the office of Chief Justice of India.
- He took his oath in Hindi, pledging to uphold the Constitution and discharge his duties faithfully
- The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and sitting and retired judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
