On 28th May 2025, Israel claimed to have killed Mohammad Sinwar, Hamas’ top military commander in Gaza, though Hamas has not yet confirmed the report.

Mohammad Sinwar, the elusive Hamas military chief and brother of slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, was a central figure in the group’s armed operations and long ranked among Israel’s most wanted individuals.
If confirmed, Sinwar’s death would likely transfer control of Hamas’ armed wing across Gaza to Izz al-Din Haddad, his close associate currently managing operations in northern Gaza.
The potential shift in command raises questions over how this might influence Hamas' internal power dynamics, especially concerning the exiled leadership’s role in ceasefire negotiations.
