Defence Ministry Begins Review of DAP 2020

On 19 June 2025, the Ministry of Defence initiated a detailed review of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 to align it with evolving defence priorities, policies, and national security goals.

A Committee led by the Director General (Acquisition) has been formed to conduct thorough consultations with stakeholders from across the defence ecosystem.
Former Indian Administrative Service officer Apurva Chandra has been appointed as the Principal Advisor to the Committee, bringing prior experience as Director General (Acquisition).
The primary aim of the review is to ensure the timely fulfilment of the operational requirements and modernisation needs of the Armed Forces to bolster national security.
The review seeks to accelerate the pace of defence procurement by removing procedural bottlenecks and ensuring smoother execution of acquisition plans.
