Defence Ministry Begins Review of DAP 2020

On 19 June 2025, the Ministry of Defence initiated a detailed review of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 to align it with evolving defence priorities, policies, and national security goals.

  • A Committee led by the Director General (Acquisition) has been formed to conduct thorough consultations with stakeholders from across the defence ecosystem.
  • Former Indian Administrative Service officer Apurva Chandra has been appointed as the Principal Advisor to the Committee, bringing prior experience as Director General (Acquisition).
  • The primary aim of the review is to ensure the timely fulfilment of the operational requirements and modernisation needs of the Armed Forces to bolster national security.
  • The review seeks to accelerate the pace of defence procurement by removing procedural bottlenecks and ensuring smoother execution of acquisition plans.
