Gender Budget Grows 4.5 Times in 11 Years

On 19th June 2025, the Union Government announced that India’s Gender Budget allocation has increased over fourfold in the past 11 years, signalling a major shift in the country’s approach to gender-responsive governance.

  • Budget Growth: Gender Budget allocations rose from Rs. 0.98 lakh crore in 2014–15 to Rs. 4.49 lakh crore in 2025–26, marking a 4.5 times increase in just over a decade.
  • National Consultation Held: A National Consultation on Gender Budgeting brought together senior officials from 40 Central ministries, 19 State governments, UN Women, Asian Development Bank, and national-level experts.
  • Launch of Knowledge Hub: The Central Government also launched the ‘Gender Budgeting Knowledge Hub’—a digital platform providing tools, best practices, and gender-disaggregated data for policy and budget planning.
  • Focus on Capacity Building: A draft ‘Training Manual’ on Gender Budgeting was also introduced to support ministries and departments in integrating gender perspectives into policies and schemes.
