Sahitya Akademi Announces Yuva, Bal Awards

On 18 June 2025, the Sahitya Akademi announced the names of 23 writers for its prestigious Yuva Puraskar and 24 authors for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar, recognising young and children’s literature in 24 Indian languages.
- The Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters, is the only literary institution in the country conducting literary activities in 24 languages, including English.
- The Yuva Puraskar for 2025 will be awarded to 23 young writers, including Advait Kottary for English, Parvati Tirkey for Hindi, Latshmihar for Tamil, and Prasad Suri for Telugu.
- Other Yuva Puraskar awardees include Suprakash Bhuyan (Assamese), Sudeshna Moitra (Bengali), R. Dileepkumar (Kannada), and Akhil P. Dharmajan (Malayalam), showcasing linguistic diversity.
- The Bal Sahitya Puraskar, which honours authors of children’s literature, will be given to 24 writers this year, including Nitin Kushalappa MP for his English book Dakshin: South Indian Myths and Fables Retold.
