INS Tamal to Join Indian Navy Fleet July 1

On 1st July 2025, the Indian Navy will commission INS Tamal, its newest stealth multi-role frigate, at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia, marking a milestone in Indo-Russian defence collaboration.

INS Tamal is the eighth Krivak-class frigate inducted from Russia and the second in the upgraded Tushil class after the Talwar and Teg-class vessels.
Tamal features 26% indigenous components, including the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, reinforcing India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India defence initiatives.
Equipped with vertically launched surface-to-air missiles, anti-submarine rockets, improved 100 mm naval guns, EO/IR systems, and heavyweight torpedoes, it showcases advanced combat readiness.
The ship also supports Air Early Warning and Multi-Role helicopters, and is integrated with Network Centric Warfare systems for modern operational environments.
Measuring 125 metres and displacing 3,900 tonnes, the ship can exceed speeds of 30 knots and has completed rigorous sea trials in extreme Russian winter conditions.
