NITI Aayog Releases NER District SDG Index 2023–24

On 7th July 2025, NITI Aayog released the second edition of the North Eastern Region District Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2023–24, assessing 121 districts across the eight Northeastern states.

- Collaborative Effort: Developed by NITI Aayog and MoDoNER, with UNDP’s technical support.
- Progress Tracking Tool: Measures district-level performance across social, economic, and environmental indicators.
- Top & Bottom Performers: Hnahthial (Mizoram) ranked highest with a score of 81.43; Longding (Arunachal Pradesh) lowest at 58.71.
- Strong State Showings: All districts in Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura achieved ‘Front Runner’ status (65–99).
- Sikkim’s Consistency: Showed least variation—only a 5.5-point difference across districts.
- Tripura’s Uniform Performance: Displayed strong intra-state balance in SDG scores.
- No Achievers or Aspirants: No districts scored 100 (Achiever) or below 50 (Aspirant).
