PM Receives Namibia’s Highest Civilian Honour

On 9th July 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Namibia’s highest civilian honour, ‘The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis’, during his landmark one-day state visit to the African nation.
- The award was presented to Prime Minister Modi by Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in a special ceremony held in Windhoek, symbolizing a new chapter in India-Namibia relations.
- With this accolade, PM became the first Indian leader ever to receive Namibia’s top civilian award, adding a historic dimension to the bilateral visit.
- ‘The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis’ was instituted in 1995 and is named after a rare desert plant endemic to Namibia, symbolising resilience, longevity, and the indomitable spirit of the Namibian people.
- The conferment of this award underscores the deepening strategic and diplomatic ties between the two nations and reflects Namibia’s appreciation of India’s consistent support and global leadership.
