India to Host First Global Manuscript Conference

On 10th July 2025, the Ministry of Culture announced India’s first-ever global conference on manuscript heritage, to be held from 11–13 September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

  • The three-day international conference titled “Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage” aims to preserve, promote and integrate India’s manuscript wealth into contemporary knowledge systems.
  • The initiative was announced on Guru Purnima, reflecting India’s deep reverence for the guru–śiṣya tradition and its ancient manuscript-based intellectual legacy.
  • The event marks the 132nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s iconic 1893 speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions, underscoring India’s enduring dedication to global peace and knowledge exchange.
  • With over 10 million manuscripts spanning disciplines such as science, philosophy, medicine and literature, India holds the world’s richest manuscript collection.
