Draft National Telecom Policy 2025 for “Mission 2030”

On 24th July 2025, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) released the draft National Telecom Policy 2025 (NTP-25) for public feedback. The policy sets an ambitious roadmap to transform India into a global telecom technology leader by 2030.

- Massive Investment Target: Aims to attract over Rs. 1 lakh crore annual investment and create 10 lakh jobs in the telecom sector by 2030.
- Six Strategic Missions: Focus areas include universal connectivity, innovation, domestic manufacturing, secure networks, ease of living/doing business, and sustainability.
- Coverage Goals: Seeks 100% 4G coverage, 90% population coverage with 5G, and fixed broadband access in 100 million homes by 2030.
- Global Tech Hub Vision: Envisions India among the top 10 nations in innovation across 5G/6G, AI, IoT, and quantum communications.
- Export and R&D Boost: Plans to double telecom exports, telecom start-ups, and R&D spending on emerging technologies.
- Startup & MSME Push: Proposes 10 Centres of Excellence and support for 500 telecom-tech startups and MSMEs
- New Innovation Entity: Will set up a Section 8 company to drive telecom innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Global Manufacturing Hub: Aims to position India as a trusted, leading exporter of telecom products under “Bharat – a telecom product nation”.
