Cabinet Approves Railway Multitracking Projects

On 31st July 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved four key railway multitracking projects worth Rs. 11,169 crore. These projects aim to enhance freight and passenger capacity across six states and are scheduled for completion by 2028–29.
Key Points
- Project Scope: Total of 574 km of new tracks to be laid across 13 districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
- Approved Corridors:
- Fourth line between Itarsi and Nagpur
- Doubling of Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar)–Parbhani section
- Third and fourth lines on Aluabari Road–New Jalpaiguri route
- Third and fourth lines on Dangoaposi–Jaroli route
- Strategic Framework: Projects aligned with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on multi-modal connectivity and integrated infrastructure planning.
- Economic Impact: Expected to handle an additional 95.91 million tonnes of freight per annum
- Employment Generation: Estimated 2.29 crore person-days of direct employment during the construction phase.
- Beneficiary Reach: Approximately 2,309 villages and 43.6 lakh people to benefit from improved connectivity.
