Lok Sabha Passes National Sports Governance Bill, 2025

On 12th August 2025, the Lok Sabha passed the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025.

Recognition and Regulation of Sports Bodies: Seeks to provide for the recognition and regulation of national sports bodies in India.
Establishment of Key Committees: Provides for the creation of the National Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee, and National and Regional Sports Federations for each designated sport, affiliated with their respective international bodies.
General Body Composition: Mandates a general body for each national sports body, comprising equal representation from affiliate members and certain ex-officio members.
Executive Committee Structure: Allows for an executive committee of up to 15 members, including at least two outstanding sportspersons and four women.
National Sports Board: Empowers the central government to establish a National Sports Board to grant recognition to national sports bodies and register their affiliate units.
National Sports Tribunal: Provides for the constitution of a National Sports Tribunal to adjudicate sports-related disputes.
