Railways Unveils Green Energy and Logistics Milestones

On 18th August 2025, the Ministry of Railways announced multiple firsts in green energy, freight operations and electrification, reflecting India’s growing push towards sustainable and efficient railway infrastructure.

  • India’s first removable solar panel system between railway tracks was commissioned at Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), Varanasi, featuring a 70-metre installation with 28 panels generating 15KWp of power.
  • The Ministry of Railways highlighted the innovation as a historic milestone in advancing green and sustainable transport solutions, particularly through the integration of solar technology with existing railway infrastructure.
  • In freight operations, the first rake carrying industrial salt was dispatched on August 10 from Sanosara (Bhuj–Naliya section) to Dahej, marking the beginning of a new logistics avenue for the salt industry in the region.
