On 17th September 2025, the Department of Posts (DoP) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi to expand mobile connectivity across India, with a special focus on rural and remote areas.

  • The MoU is designed to strengthen BSNL’s mobile reach by bridging the digital divide and empowering rural households with affordable and reliable telecom services.
  • The initiative aligns with the goals of the Digital India mission, seeking to promote financial inclusion, improve digital access, and accelerate socio-economic development across diverse regions of the country.
  • Under this agreement, the Department of Posts will utilize its vast postal network of over 1.65 lakh Post Offices to facilitate the sale of BSNL SIM cards nationwide.
  • This partnership will transform post offices into last-mile service delivery hubs, significantly improving BSNL’s accessibility in both rural and urban geographies.
