On 12th September 2025, India and Mauritius signed a landmark agreement to establish a satellite tracking station in Mauritius near Diego Garcia, strengthening India’s strategic presence in the Indian Ocean region.

  • India and Mauritius signed an agreement on cooperation for the establishment of a telemetry, tracking, and telecommunications station for satellites and launch vehicles, as well as for collaboration in space research, science, and applications.
  • The tracking facility in Mauritius will enable India to monitor its satellites, collect real-time data, and enhance surveillance across the Indian Ocean, providing a strategic edge amid increasing Chinese naval activity.
  • The deal was signed during the visit of Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam to India, highlighting deepening bilateral cooperation in space and security.
  • India reaffirmed its long-standing support for Mauritius’ sovereignty over the Chagos Islands, including those near Diego Garcia, while recognising London’s limited defence presence as agreed in the treaty signed earlier this year.
