Typhoon Matmo Makes Landfall in Southern China

On 5th October 2025, Typhoon Matmo struck southern China, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall that disrupted travel and holiday plans across the region, particularly in the island province of Hainan during the country’s peak National Day holiday week.

Matmo made landfall on the east coast of Xuwen in Guangdong province.
It was accompanied by powerful winds causing severe weather conditions across coastal regions of southern China.
The storm followed its devastating path through the Philippines, where it caused widespread flooding before moving northwest towards China.
