Cochin Shipyard Delivers Indigenous ASW Vessel
- 25 Oct 2025
On 24th October 2025, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) formally handed over Mahe, India’s first indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), to the Indian Navy, marking a milestone in self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
- The vessel was handed over in a formal ceremony where CSL’s Director of Operations signed the acceptance documents with Mahe’s Commanding Officer-Designate, Commander Amit Chandra Choubey, in the presence of senior naval officials.
- Mahe, measuring 78 metres in length, is the largest Indian naval vessel powered by a diesel engine-waterjet propulsion system, enhancing its speed, agility, and operational flexibility in shallow waters.
- The ship is designed for multiple operational roles, including underwater surveillance, search and rescue operations, low-intensity maritime missions, and mine-laying, making it a versatile asset for coastal defence.
