- 31 Oct 2025
On 31st October 2025, India celebrated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, whose vision and leadership were instrumental in uniting more than 565 princely states into the Union of India.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, followed by a grand celebration featuring a parade, cultural performances, and an aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team.
- A unique feature this year is the inclusion of Indian breed dogs from the Border Security Force — Rampur Hounds and Mudhol Hounds — with the lead dog “Riya” being honoured as the national champion.
- A special cultural programme involving 900 artists celebrated India’s diverse heritage through classical, folk, and regional performances, while the Guard of Honour for the Prime Minister was led by a woman officer, reflecting the increasing participation of women in national service.
