JJM Funds Linked to Mandatory Onboarding of Sujal Gaon ID

In December 2025, the Centre informed states that financial allocations under the extended phase of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) - now supported until 2028 - will be released only after all rural piped water supply schemes are fully onboarded onto the Sujal Gaon ID digital platform.

Mandatory Digital Integration: Sujal Gaon ID is a comprehensive digital module that records details of every village water supply scheme, including geo-tagged pipelines, overhead tanks, pumps, storage structures, water treatment units, and drinking water quality.
Unified National Registry: According to officials, all rural drinking water supply schemes will be integrated into a national asset registry, enabling complete visibility “from the source to the household tap.”
Unique Scheme Identification: Each scheme and its service area will be assigned a unique Sujalam Bharat – Sujal Gaon ID, allowing clear identification of which scheme supplies water to which families.
Citizen Transparency: Through the Sujalam Bharat App, rural residents will be able to view a full digital overview of their village water system and infrastructure.
Funding Contingency: The Centre has notified states that funding during the extended JJM phase will be contingent upon completion of Sujal Gaon ID creation, reinforcing accountability and transparency.
Irregularities in JJM: As per data from 32 States/UTs, 17,036 complaints have been received regarding financial irregularities and poor-quality works. Actions taken include penalties or disciplinary steps against 621 officials, 969 contractors, and 153 Third-Party Inspection Agencies (TPIAs).
