India, ADB Sign $2.2 Bn Loans

On 15 December 2025, India and the Asian Development Bank signed loan agreements worth over 2.2 billion US dollars to support five large development projects across multiple sectors and states.

  • The loan agreements were finalised under the guidance of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Finance to fund initiatives in skilling, renewable energy, healthcare, urban transport and sustainable livelihoods.
  • A major share of the financing, amounting to 846 million US dollars, will support the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) Programme through the upgradation of 650 Industrial Training Institutes across 12 states.
  • The skilling initiative also includes upgrading five National Skill Training Institutes into centres of excellence and is expected to enhance employability for at least 1.3 million youth in high-growth sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility and advanced manufacturing.
