On 16 December 2025, India’s top leadership paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers whose courage and sacrifice secured the nation’s historic victory in the 1971 war.

The President highlighted that the Indian Army’s empowerment through indigenisation reflects its preparedness for future challenges and commitment to self-reliance.
She noted that through Operation Sindoor, the Army demonstrated strategic resolve, modern warfare capabilities and effective use of indigenous systems, setting an example for the nation.
Vice President C P Radhakrishnan stated that the valour of the Armed Forces led to a decisive victory over Pakistan and resulted in the creation of an independent Bangladesh.
He emphasised that the 1971 war reshaped the region’s geopolitical landscape and reaffirmed India’s commitment to justice, freedom and military professionalism.
