BhashaDaan Workshop Boosts Language Preservation

On 16th December 2025, the Ministry of Minority Affairs hosted a BhashaDaan workshop under India’s National Language Technology Mission to promote the preservation of classical and endangered languages using digital tools.

  • The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Minority Affairs under the BhashaDaan initiative of BHASHINI, focusing on safeguarding India’s linguistic diversity in the digital era.
  • Experts, institutional stakeholders and community representatives participated in the discussions on using technology-driven solutions to document and revitalise classical and endangered languages.
  • Special attention was given to languages such as Pali, Prakrit, Avesta Pahlavi and the Gurmukhi script, highlighting the urgency of preserving them through structured digital efforts.
  • Participants emphasised the need to develop high-quality monolingual corpora and encouraged community-led data contributions to strengthen language resources.
