PM Concludes Jordan Visit, Signs MoUs

On 16th December 2025, PM concluded his landmark visit to Jordan, during which India and Jordan signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to deepen bilateral cooperation, before departing for Ethiopia on the second leg of his three-nation tour.

  • MoUs Signed: According to the Prime Minister’s Office, five MoUs were signed covering new and renewable energy, water resource management and development, a cultural exchange programme for 2025–2029, digital public infrastructure, and a twinning arrangement between Petra and Ellora.
  • Strategic Dialogue: PM held detailed discussions with King Abdullah II on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, renewable energy, fertilisers, agriculture, digital technologies, critical minerals, infrastructure, health, pharmaceuticals, education, tourism, heritage and people-to-people ties.
  • Trade and Digital Push: The Prime Minister proposed increasing bilateral trade to USD 5 billion over the next five years and called for collaboration between Jordan’s digital payment systems and India’s Unified Payments Interface.
  • Economic Ties: India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, while Jordan is a key supplier of phosphates and potash fertilisers essential for India’s agricultural sector.
  • Industrial Cooperation: The Jordan India Fertiliser Company, a joint venture between Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative and Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, remains a major source of phosphoric acid for India.
  • Indian Presence: Over 15 Indian-owned garment manufacturing units operate in Jordan’s Qualified Industrial Zones, and around 17,500 Indian nationals are employed across textiles, construction, manufacturing and healthcare sectors.
  • Historic Milestone: The visit coincided with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan, marking a significant milestone in bilateral ties.
