Indian Coast Guard’s Regional Pollution Response Exercise

On 26th December 2025, the Indian Coast Guard conducted a Regional Level Pollution Response Exercise (RPREX-2025) off the coast of Mumbai to strengthen preparedness against oil pollution at sea.

During the exercise, a simulated scenario was created in which a motor tanker vessel reported a major oil spill after developing a hole onboard following a collision with a fishing boat.
The incident scenario involved heavy spillage of crude oil into the sea, triggering an emergency pollution response.
To combat the simulated spill, a specialised Indian Coast Guard Pollution Control Vessel, along with two additional ICG ships, was deployed in full pollution response configuration.
The exercise aimed to test operational readiness, coordination and response efficiency of all stakeholders involved in marine pollution control.
The Indian Coast Guard regularly conducts such Pollution Response Exercises to assess preparedness and response mechanisms.
