Indian Coast Guard’s Regional Pollution Response Exercise

  • 27 Dec 2025

On 26th December 2025, the Indian Coast Guard conducted a Regional Level Pollution Response Exercise (RPREX-2025) off the coast of Mumbai to strengthen preparedness against oil pollution at sea.

  • During the exercise, a simulated scenario was created in which a motor tanker vessel reported a major oil spill after developing a hole onboard following a collision with a fishing boat.
  • The incident scenario involved heavy spillage of crude oil into the sea, triggering an emergency pollution response.
  • To combat the simulated spill, a specialised Indian Coast Guard Pollution Control Vessel, along with two additional ICG ships, was deployed in full pollution response configuration.
  • The exercise aimed to test operational readiness, coordination and response efficiency of all stakeholders involved in marine pollution control.
  • The Indian Coast Guard regularly conducts such Pollution Response Exercises to assess preparedness and response mechanisms.
