On 28th January 2026, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died when the chartered Learjet he was travelling in crashed during landing at Baramati in Pune district.

  • The state government subsequently declared a state holiday and three days of mourning.
  • The aircraft, a Bombardier Learjet 45, crashed during its second landing approach on the table-top runway.
  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that no survivors were found and that the aircraft was destroyed in the crash, with an investigation ordered to determine the cause.
