Vibrant Villages Programme-II

On 20th February 2026, the Union Home Minister launched the Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II) at Natanpur village in Cachar district, Assam.
- The programme, with an outlay of ₹6,839 crore, aims to accelerate the development of border areas.
- The programme will cover 334 blocks and nearly 1,954 villages across 17 states, including 140 border villages in Assam.
- Development works are also progressing in villages along the Indo-Pakistan border to strengthen infrastructure and connectivity.
- The initiative aims to enhance border security, rural development and socio-economic growth in frontier regions.
- The Home Minister highlighted illegal encroachment as a major challenge in Assam and reaffirmed continued eviction drives.
- He stated that the government aims to make Assam flood-free within the next five years.
