On 11th March 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worthRs.5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli.

• The projects cover clean energy, petroleum manufacturing, highways, railways and rural connectivity.
• The initiatives aim to boost infrastructure, employment and energy access in Tamil Nadu.
• The Prime Minister laid the foundation for a City Gas Distribution network.
• The project will be implemented by Bharat Petroleum.
• It will cover the Nilgiris and Erode districts.
• Around nine lakh households will receive piped natural gas.
• Natural gas use will help reduce air pollution.
• The environmental impact equals planting about four crore trees over eight years.
• The facility is among the world’s largest lubricant blending plants.
• The plant will support industrial lubricant demand and reduce imports.
