Development Projects Worth ₹18,700 Crore Launched in Kolkata

On 14th March 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth ₹18,700 crore in Kolkata.

  • The projects focus on roads, railways and port infrastructure development.
  • The initiatives aim to strengthen connectivity across eastern India.
  • The Kharagpur-Moregram Expressway project was among the major announcements.
  • The Dubrajpur Bypass project will improve road connectivity in the region.
  • New bridges will be constructed over the Kangsabati and Shilabati rivers.
  • The projects aim to boost trade and industrial growth in the state.
  • The Automatic Block Signalling System was dedicated on the Kalaikunda-Kanimahuli railway section.
  • Six railway stations were redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
  • The stations include Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum and Siuri.
  • A new express train between Purulia and Anand Vihar Terminal was flagged off.
  • The train will improve connectivity between West Bengal and northern states.
  • Port infrastructure projects were also launched in Kolkata and Haldia.
