Development Projects Worth ₹23,550 Crore in Silchar

On 14th March 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth ₹23,550 crore in Silchar.

  • The projects focus on connectivity, infrastructure, education and economic development.
  • The initiatives aim to transform Barak Valley into a logistics hub in Northeast India.
  • The ₹24,000 crore Shillong-Silchar High-Speed Corridor project was announced.
  • The corridor will improve connectivity with Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura.
  • It will also strengthen links with South-East Asian markets under the Act East Policy.
  • A new flyover project was launched in Silchar city.
  • Rail electrification across more than 2,500 km of Assam’s railway network was highlighted.
  • The initiatives aim to reduce travel time and improve regional mobility.
  • Institutions such as NIT Silchar and Assam University will benefit from better connectivity.
  • Over ₹20,000 crore has been transferred to Assam farmers under PM-KISAN scheme.
  • A new agriculture college will be established at Patharkandi.
  • The institution will promote research and agri-startups in Barak Valley.
  • The Vibrant Village Programme will be expanded in Cachar district.
